Re lit the blinkenlights

October 7, 2005

Now that this week we’re celebrating the BeBox’ 10th birthday, it’s time to elaborate on what I think YellowTAB should do in order to give their business an extra push.

By the gods of the Olympos, Bernd, create a new BeBox.

Give it a dual-core processor. Give it some ram. Build on the classic design of the BeBox. Re-lit the blinkenlights. Do not name it ZetaBox. Make sure each piece of hardware in it works flawlessly with Zeta. Remember where BeOS came from. Remember who made BeOS, and from what company they came. Turn YellowTAB into a sort of Apple. Do it.

In return, I’ll promis not to say anything about bad yT-dev interaction. Really.

  1. These things don’t pay Thom. It’s a bad advice to YellowTAB. It would be a waste of effort and money.

People don’t want “geek boxes”, people want computers that work and interoperate perfectly with other computers.

The reality is much more flat than we geeks want it to be.

Of course it’s a waste of money :). This wasn’t a serious post at all :).

That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t want them to do it, however.

  3. I agree Thom - I’d love to see a new BeBox. Not that I think YellowTab are necessarily the right people to make it - I’m certainly not inspired by their (Bernd’s) ability to alienate significant swathes of the developer community. But I’d still love to think some company might one day do the BeBox name justice with a new system.

Just FYI too, in addition to my post about the 10th BeBox anniversary at The BeBox Zone that you referenced on OSNews, I’ve also blogged a little more about the BeBox anniversary on my personal blog.

  4. YellowTab is incapable of that kind of class act.
