Jeff Waugh’s a moron guy-with-a-different-kind-of-humour-than-I-have
October 22, 2005
I officially promoted GNOME’s Jeff Waugh to moron guy-with-a-different-kind-of-humour-than-I-have. In his blog he says about Amsterdam:
Amsterdam definitely lived up to its reputation - just outside the hotel was an enormous stone buttplug.
And then he shows a picture of… Our national WWII monument. Which is this *huge* structure on this *huge* center square of my capitol, right in front of this *huge* Royal Palace– so really, it’s not as if this isn’t in just about every travelguide about my country on the planet.
That is just sick. It just shows how little respect he has for what happened during WWII in my, and other’s, countries. And if he doesn’t know what the monument was about– then fcuk him too, educated and well-mannered people *always* check what a monument is about by reading the plaquette next to a monument before making silly jokes about it.
Dear lord.
Note Yeah I can overreact. That’s what you get when normal folk have the power of publishing… ;).

I find it interesting that the first Google Image Search result for ‘Amsterdam’ is http://www.cs.bgu.ac.il/~voronov/images/amsterdam.jpg .

I saw the monument in Amdsterdam when I was there at age 16. Pretty neat. I saw other neat things, like the huge canal and several neat museum. Amsterdam is a great city.

Tom:
Try the first Google image search result for New York…
Chris:
Yeah, tourist-wise, Amsterdam’s a great city. As for living there– I don’t think it is. It has its… Problems. For me at least.

Gee, every Dutch person I mentioned this to thought it was an amusing mental image. I’m entirely aware that it’s a WWII memorial.

Luckily we all have different senses of humour :).
It’s that making jokes on the personal level is quite different than making them on an impersonal level (such as a blog), because a blog is just that– a lump of text. From that lump of text one is incapable of getting the full monty behind the text.
I guess this is all settled.

Meanwhile, you should totally have come to the UoA evening. It was rad.

Yeah, maybe I should’ve. The UvA is of course the ‘other side’; (me being of the VU), but still.
I’m not really the convention kinda guy. I’ll just read up on them on the net. And besides that, I might incite someone’s anger when walking around in my OSNews tshirt :).
