I did something really crazy today. I bought a 2nd-hand iMac G3 333Mhz. Been wanting one for a long time. Bondi Blue.

How much RAM does it have? Geeks.com was selling some of them a few weeks ago for $99. Are you going to run an older OSX version on it or MacOS 9? In my experience, Linux can run there, but slowly, plus you will need more than 128 MBs for a modern Linux distro.

It has 96MB RAM, and I am running MacOS 9.2.2 on it. I really like OS 9– okay it’s old, looks outdated, and all that, but the UI makes a lot of sense. Still awaiting first crash…
They had a special sale at MacSupport of all 2nd hand stuff today (they are normally closed on Sundays). I paid 49E, the price they want for a 266MHz, but the guy said, ‘it might be a 333Mhz, but we’ll charge the 266 price.’ When I got home and ran Profiler, I saw it :).
Btw, the guy was an OSNews reader :D. He knew me, without me knowing him.

I was the proud owner of an identical machine about 7 years ago (it was my 3rd Mac, previously had an LCII and a Duo, which IMO was way ahead of it’s time). Sadly it was my last Mac before I switched over to Windows, but I’m strongly considering getting a MacBook if it can indeed dual boot with Windows.

Interesting purchase. Was it just for curiosity’s sake, or do you have some grand plans in mind? :)

Just for fun, for my world domination plans I don’t need a coloured see-through computer :).
