Metric mile

February 21, 2006

And so it happend that Enrico Fabris won the metric mile (the 1500 metres). I’m sad no Dutchman has won, but I’m very happy for Fabris– if there’s one skater besides the Dutch that deserved the gold medal, it was him. He has performed exceptionally well these games.

This is really good for speedskating in general too. Italy isn’t a speedskating nation, and as such this will spark interest throughout the Italian nation.

Tomorrow the women’s 1500 metres. There, it is very well possible we’ll win the gold. We have two serious candidates, Marianne Timmer and Ireen Wust, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed tonight.

And I need to make a sports topic for my blog, but I’m lazy.
