My German is acceptable

March 31, 2006

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Newton’s Third Law.

For a few days now, there’s this charity box at my work’s front cash register. However, it’s not for some big, faceless organizitian of which you’re never sure what they do with your money or where it’s going to end up. For all you know, the money finds it way into some high guy’s pocket.

No, this little box is different.

It’s for a young girl, Sterre (’Star’). Only 18 months old. She suffered from serious oxygen shortage when she was born, and hence, suffers from severe spasms. She looks like an ordinary girl, always smiling. However, she’ll never be able to walk. Or talk. Or anything. Right now, she can only roll from her belly to her back, and back again. And she can smile. She can smile.

The box… It’s different.

There is hope for her. There’s a new treatment for her disorder, called HBOT. This treatment uses pure oxygen in a special chamber, then a lot of magic happens, and then sleeping neurons in her brain are awakened. There’s a lot of hope this treatment improves Sterre’s life significantly. Seriously improve her life.

That’s why the box is different.

The father picks it up himself. There is no big, faceless organization in between, filled with people who fill their own pockets first. He picks it up himself. Because the treatment costs EUR 25000, and insurance doesn’t cover it yet. And the parents cannot afford it.

Go the webpage, and please, make a donation. No matter how small. It does not matter how small, your money can make a difference. Not only for Sterre, but for other children with similar conditions too, as they will be using their foundation for that purpose as well.

Please donate. It’s not everyday that you get such a chance to do something very small that may mean the world to someone else.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Newton’s Third Law. Where there is someone in pain, in trouble, in a state of fear over their or their loved ones’ futures, there will be someone else in an utter state of joy.

And by golly, there is!

Ah yes, as you can all see, my German is acceptable. Sort of.

Like I said, Newton’s Third Law. D’you s’ppose he had any idea to what extent his law would prove to be applicable?

Israel has not signed that treaty

March 30, 2006

Bunch of hypocrit Americans. They say: “we have certain laws that prohibit us to deal with a terrorist organization”, and so they broke all diplomatic contacts with Palestine.

Maybe someone should tell the US government about this other little law you guys have and are breaking continiously, and have been doing so for 60 years: American law prohibits any financial aid to countries that have not signed the Nuclear Prolifiration Treaty… Israel has not signed that treaty, yet they receive more financial aid from the US than any other country.

You were saying?

‘This is Thom’

March 29, 2006

Kelly McNeill has been busy lately. Many anonymous comments on his website were again attributed to me by him. I updated the Expose Kelly McNeill page accordingly. The guy is just sick. He writes ‘This is Thom’ after each falsily attributed comment– many posters have been in revolt, asking him to show proof– which he can’t, of course. Sick.

Because he doesn’t get a cookie

Theo said:

I will say it here — if an OpenSSH hole is found that applies to SunSSH, Sun will not be informed. Or maybe that has happened already.

I’m sorry, but that is just plain childish and extremely unprofessional. It’s like a kid refusing to do anything his mother tells him to because he doesn’t get a cookie.

If Theo wants people to take OpenBSD seriously, he should stop making pointless comments like this one. If you really care about security and open source, you help anyone using your software (if that anyone has done nothing to break the licensing of course). If you let personal grudges stand in the way of seeing the bigger picture (*cough*Amiga), then you have no place in the corporate world– or in any world, for that matter.

Grow up.

Kelly-ish, at best

March 27, 2006

The responses to my column on Amiga OS4 are… Kelly-ish, at best.

A friend of mine summed it up perfectly

If they were clever they wouldn’t use a 20 year old OS

Sums it up, really.

No one of the staff intervened

Scandalous. Absolutely prepostrous. That’s what it is.

Last week, GeenStijl got its hands on a video made by a high school boy of three girls fighting in the hallway of school. The fight, which got pretty rough, went on for minutes, minutes, and minutes, yet NO ONE of the children, and NO ONE of the staff intervened. Now, that in itself is scandalous enough.

But what did the school do? The fcukers EXPELLED the videotaker off of the school. WHY? WHAT THE FCUK. The SCHOOL is at fault for NOT taking decent care of the children. It seems like teachers AGAIN fail to acknowledge THEY were wrong.

Me and my family have a lot of experience with teachers from various different schools due to my two brothers (none of your business, but my two brothers are… Problem children. To say it very, very, very midly). And if there’s one thing we concluded, it’s this: besides people who work for the government and politicians, teachers are the most idiotic and arrogant types of people on this planet.

My rap period of years ago

March 26, 2006

I’m not really into hiphop and rap anymore (rap and hiphop are dead), but I’m still left with this huge collection of rap and hiphop CDs from my rap period of years ago. Ice Cube, Westide Connection, Dr Dre, and yes, even Eminem. Today I put the Slim Shady LP in my CD player and got reminded of one the best verses he ever wrote for his “97 Bonnie And Clyde”.

See honey.. there’s a place called heaven and a place called hell
A place called prison and a place called jail
And da-da’s probably on his way to all of ‘m except one
Cause mama’s got a new husband and a stepson
And you don’t want a brother do ya? (Nah)
Maybe when you’re old enough to understand a little better
I’ll explain it to ya
But for now we’ll just say mama was real real bad
She was bein’ mean to dad and made him real real mad
But I still feel sad that I put her on time-out
Sit back in your chair honey, quit tryin’ to climb out (WAHH!)
I told you it’s okay HaiHai, wanna ba-ba?
Take a night-night? Nan-a-boo, goo-goo ga-ga?
Her make goo-goo ca-ca? Da-da change your dia-dee
Clean the baby up so her can take a nighty-nighty
Your dad’ll wake her up as soon as we get to the water
‘97 Bonnie and Clyde, me and my daughter

Seriously, just PURE genious.

It runs Solitaire much faster

It’s true. I have a Windows laptop too now, besides my iBook. It’s a present from David Adams, OSNews’ owner, and therefore my ‘boss’ so to speak. I’m really, really, really happy with it, and of course I’m more than thankful for it!

But, let’s get into the details:

  • Dell Inspiron 6000
  • Intel Pentium M 1.73Ghz
  • 512MB RAM
  • Ati Radeon X300 with 128MB dedicated RAM
  • 15.4″ widescreen
  • Windows XP Media Center Edition
  • DVD writer

Really great specifications, if you ask me. I’m not really keeping up with the hardware progress lately (I used to when I still played games ten thousand years ago), but nonetheless, I believe this is pretty impressive :). It runs Solitaire much faster than my fastest desktop x86 (my stunning Athlon XP 1600+, it cost me about 5 fortunes when I bought it).

The reason for this machine is of course Windows Vista. This machine has all the bang to run Vista comfortably, including the fancy Aero Glass stuff. Really, really great!

Thanks again David, it is so very much appreciated. Again, please be careful with what’s coming your way!

  • Over my dead body

Oh dear lord, a new political movement in my country. They want a bi-party system, and an elected prime-minister.

    Over my dead body.

    Exactly, an overdose

    March 23, 2006

Hah! Didn’t I tell you? Didn’t I fcuking tell you?

As it turns out, the chief investigator has revealed to CBS the probable TRUE cause of death of Nathallee Holloway: she was very drunk, and has bought drugs. She, as he claims, wasn’t murdered, no: she died because of too much alcohol and drugs: exactly, an overdose. They are currently digging in the area where she probably has been buried– by whom? That’s the question. All the information comes from very reliable witnesses, says the chief officer. The investigation is in the final critical phase.

    Didn’t I fcuking tell you.
