I’m happy me and her are undamaged
April 14, 2006I’ve just had a pretty major car accident with me mum’s car… It wasn’t my fault though. Let me give you a sketch of what happened.

She was supposed to stop for me, as you can see by the ’shark’s teeth’. She drove really slowly up until the teeth, so I figured she was going to stop; I shifted my attention towards the road on the right-hand side, to check if no one was coming from that side. At that point, I was doing the max. speed, 80kph.
Before I knew it, I saw her car (a big, black, Volvo V70 estate) NOT stopping for me; I stepped on the brake, honked the horn, but I already crashed full into her side. Jesus fcuking Christ, the sound was pretty loud.
It was her fault. I put my car on the handbrake, sat completely still for five seconds, and then started letting out my aggression on the steering wheel, saying nasty stuff to the woman– however, I was still inside, she couldn’t hear me. I immediatly knew she just miscalculated; so I regained my calm, acted British, and in the end I was calming her down. The right backseat-door of her Volvo was almost blown out; there’s a huge dent in the Volvo in any case; me mum’s car’s left frontend is completely trashed (though the car still drives fine).
I was calm enough to realize that the first thing we should do was drive our cars off of the road. I invited her inside my car, I phoned me dad, and I let her use my phone to call her husband. She was shaking much more heavily than I was (I kept my cool throughout it all, but by God I was pissed off and shaking).
Back at her place, we handled the paperwork, I got some coffee (ahey, something good did come out of it), and now me mum and I are going to drive the car to the dealership.
It may have not been my fault at all, but still. I’m very pissed off. Very. And of course startled; but I’m happy me and her are undamaged.

w0w! Good to hear your okay, you scared me foir a sec!
Btw, those shark-teeth on the right side are pointing in the wrong direction… ;)

Tsk tsk, all that Martini doesn’t do you any good.
Still, I’m glad to hear you’re ok!

Speaking from experience, any accident you walk away from is a good one.
Glad there were no injuries and that you were able to keep your cool under some very trying circumstances.

By the way you talk ….you sound “…fcuking…” IDIOT!!
Happy Easter!

Basically, if you hit someone like this, it’s YOUR fault (maybe not legally though). Go and do a defensive driving course and find out why.
Comment by James — April 17, 2006 @ 12:04 am
Luigi is a tard.
It was not Thom’s fault. If you are making a left turn into moving traffic it is your responsibility to ensure it is clear before pulling out.
It is NOT the responsibility of the moving traffac to slam on their brakes so that you may enter.
I had a simmilar accident where someone was trying to cross a busy road with no visibility. They gunned it into bumper to bumper traffic and I was barely able to slow the car before impact let alone actually stop. Was it my fault? hell no.

James, don’t talk crap. It’s not my fault in any possible way you look at it. The woman drove very slowly, she was obviously preparing to stop, which she must since I’m on a ‘voorrangsweg’, but in the end, she did not. So I hit her.
She took full responsibility for the accident, and she was very honest: “I miscalculated, I thought I could make it.”

The Volvo picture you are linking to is a XC70 not a V70. The V70 is less off-road-ish.
Also, the “shark teeth” on the right in your drawing points in the wrong direction ;)
Comment by Per — April 17, 2006 @ 8:10 am
I know it’s an XC, but I was too lazy to find a real V70. And yeah, the teeth are wrong but I couldn’t find the tool to mirror selections (it kept mirroring the entire image).

In America, there is a such thing as the “Right of Way”. If someone is in an intersection already they have the right of way and you would have had to slow down or stop if she was in the intersection already. Also, are these one way streets you drew?

Glad to see you’re OK. 80 kph can get you seriously banged up if your airbag doesn’t open. (BTW for english speakers “voorrangsweg” means he had the right of way, so he’s not at fault here)

and the reason that someone removed my comment is?…..

Jody must have some brain damages, He doesn’t even understand what I was talking about.
My comment was about some language expressions used on this blog by the administrator. Who cares about the accident?!

Here in denmark, the (translated from danish) “soft” road users / vulnerable road users a NEVER to blame, the driver has to be able to hit the brakes in time or else you driving too fast….
and the same thing almost applies when a car hits another car…
both drivers have to be able to brake in time or avoid the collision…

What, you think I wanted this to happen or something? Jesus lord, how the hell am I supposed to stop someone who’s basically going suicidal by planting her fat ass in front of a 1000kg projectile doing 80kph?
Dude, of course I did not want this damn thing to happen, and of course I did fcuking everything to prevent this bitch. But a crash was fcuking INEVITABLE.
Do you even HAVE a driver’s license?
Comment by Administrator — April 17, 2006 @ 6:31 pm
okay thats good, and yes i have a drivers license and my own car…
but dont overreact, i did’t ment to accuse you of anything just say that there a two sides to this story….

Well Thom, at least you got to a girl’s place for once!
J/K :P
Comment by Max — April 17, 2006 @ 7:51 pm
That was indeed another complaint about this crash… I fcuking crash my car into another girl’s car, and she has to be 30+ and married with children.
:/

[edit]So I’m an idiot? Might be, but at least I’m an idiot with a ban button.[/edit]

Very late reply to this, but I’m glad everyone was ok!
I hope the bump hasn’t damaged your confidence - James was wrong to say it was your fault, but his point about advanced driving is still a good one. It probably wouldn’t have saved this accident, but I still think the more you can learn the better.
Driving is like coding in a number of respects I think..
(liked the microkernel article on osnews btw).
