See the pattern

May 31, 2006

And so the US shows its true colours. The debate on minorities (esp. Latinos) is hot in the US, and as clearly shown by the reaction of the right-wing part of that country, the US isn’t even remotely as free anymore as the founding fathers had in mind. You see, the US has never had an official language– many think it’s English, but it’s not. The Federal government has no official language. I personally find this silly; I’m proud of the Dutch language, and a country without an official language really isn’t as much a country as one that does have an official language. But that’s just personal.

Anyway, the founding fathers of the US believed that having an official language probably intervened with the concept of freedom (or something). Even though I’d disagree, I do get where they’re coming from. Basically, the founding fathers didn’t give a rat’s ass as to what language an American would speak.

However, Spanish is now gaining ground fast in the US. Every true American patriot (I think I’m gonna be sick) should welcome this, and eventually, not give a rat’s ass about this, right? The problem is– they do. They want to make English the official language, and thereby deviate massively from the founding fathers’ ideas.

This goes to show that the freedom you as an American have is absolutely worthless. The moment that that freedom gets in the way of the rich, white part of the country, it is easily brushed aside. Tapping phones, censorship of words, censorship of images and information from warzones, and now this. All of those threaten the rich white part of the American populace.

Even laws get brushed aside easily. For instance, US law prohibits any financal or material aid to countries that do not sign the Nuclear Prolifiration Treaty– guess which country gets the most financial and material aid from the US– that same country has in fact not signed the NPT (guess the country and get a cookie). This means the US government has continiously been breaking the American law for 50 years.

You see the pattern? In the US, freedom ends where it threathens the white populace. Scary.

Really fcuked up

There’s an angel on my shoulder today. I passed my exam I made yesterday (max. number of errors you could have was 15, and true to my nature I made 14), which makes me really happy.

And I almost dropped the MacBook Pro down the stairs just now. That would’ve been really fcuked up.

Turn the page on the day

Saturday

It’s nice to chat about the shit in my head
With someone who just listens to you instead

Pick up Renate at her place, drive home. Watch Dit Was Het Nieuws, laugh a lot. Make ourselves comfortable on the couch, watch Panic Room. Film’s over, channel surf’s up. BBC1, The Eagles, Farewall Tour, 2004, Melbourne, Australia. Make Renate understand why Desperado is about my brother. Drive Renate home, chat for well over an hour in front of her house in my car. Talk about people, ourselves; about the past, the present, the future. How much do I like that girl, she asks. I don’t know, I reply.

Sunday

Make yourself at home
We got diesel or some of that homegrown
Sit back in your throne, turn off your phone
‘Cause this is our zone

Chatting with Felicia all day, try to study. Watch how my beloved Ferrari falls through the ice in Monaco. Take a refreshing shower, charge myself up for tonight. Jump in my car, make it to Alkmaar Noord Station just in time. Jump on the Intercity, Original Pirate Material in my MD. Fall asleep on the train, still tired from the night before. En route to Paradiso. Inside, buy a The Streets shirt, size M, that’ll be 22E. The Mitchell Brothers warm the crowd, they leave stage, big round of applause. Mike apears on stage, the place starts radiating. All the songs, vibrant, alive, energetic, electric, up, down, back, forth, Nadia, Marco, Levi, me, people I don’t know and never will know, all sharing one love, the love for Real Music, from the Birmingham geezer. You’re fit but you know it, getting laid is easy when you’re famous, it’s Leo’s birthday, don’t you wish your boyfriend was hot like me, radiating, jumping. Settle down. Never went to church, watery eyes, you left me behind to remind me of you, dry your eyes. Mate. Central Station, car, home.

That’s it
Turn the page on the day, walk away

I’d do anything for her

May 27, 2006

It’s been a month of changes. Serious matters, like moving out to my own house. Less serious matters, like moving the DB9 down off of the top spot of most beautiful cars ever made in favour of the Alfa Tipo 33 Stradale. Now, here’s a more serious change.

Just now, while listening to “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, performed by Johnny Cash and Fiona Apple, it hit me: Fiona Apple is the best artist of all times (for me, obviously). While the top spot for best band of all times has firmly been grasped by The Eagles, the top spot for artist has been open for debate, personally. Alanis Morissette held the top spot through her first three albums, but after that, she became repetative. After Alanis, many contestants have fought for the spot: Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, Fiona Apple.

But Fiona is the only one of those three who’s music, no matter what song, makes me stop in my tracks, makes me forget any troubles and worries. She’s the only one who can facilitate thinking about my two brothers, me mum’s cancer, everything. She is everything, musically.

I actually care about Fiona. Without her knowing it, obviously, she somehow means a lot to me, and I’d do anything for her.

I want to meet Franziska!

May 26, 2006

Seeing all these images of Berlin related to the opening of Berlin Hauptbahnhof makes me all itching to go to my favourite city yet again. I saw the new trainstation during construction exactly a year ago, but now that it’s done– my god it’s so beautiful.

Other than that, I want to meet Franziska!

You’re actually doing something

May 24, 2006

My god, what a busy day at work today. Due to personal problems, the family which owns and runs the shop I work at was mostly or absent, or with their minds somewhere else– and we are already underpowered when it comes to workforce. I don’t mind busy days, really, though; it’s better than sitting behind the info desk waiting for customers. You’re actually doing something which feels really good.

The MacBook Pro is a disappointment. It’s too hot, the screen is mediocre at best, the speakers suck ass, the keyboard is crappy. Oh my, Apple is not going to like my review.

Some blonde chick

May 23, 2006

I sold my iBook today. The guy paid EUR 600 for it. I’m putting it away for my MacBook. Right at the moment I was making the deal, the doorbell rang: the MacBook Pro Apple is loaning me for review arrived! How’s that for timing?

But the most important news was this morning: I had my in-take conversation at the housing corporation. I was expecting some Guantanamo-style interrogation, but instead some blonde chick just asked me for all my info (incl. paychecks, etc.), gave me all the information needed to rent a house, and that was it! It’s now official: the house is mine! The contract will be signed 15th June, in the house itself (how cool is that?). 16th June the contract becomes effective and I’ll be moving!

I’m happy!

To prosperity

I’d like to congratulate the citizens of the Republic Of Crna Gora (Montenegro) with their democratically acquired sovereignity. I hope the proponents and opponents can together lead their republic to prosperity.

With all the butterflies

May 19, 2006

I’ve had a GREAT few days. Seriously. They were GREAT. For some odd reason, I am extremely happy as of late. So darn HAPPY! I got a house, a lot of good friends, a healthy mother, a healthy father, three healthy cats, and so much else I can’t thank the world enough for. And to make today even better, I discovered a lot of new bands today thanks to me searching for the music of Dead Like Me and asking for what band is behind the awesome music of that extremely stylish and moving SNS bank commercial (with all the butterflies [note: music is muted somehow, weird Qt]).

As for Dead Like Me’s music, there are three songs that stand out because they are used throughout the series or on defyning moments:

  • Metisse - “Boom Boom Ba”: used all throughout the first season. Metisse is French, but the song is mostly in English, but it’s a really odd form of English. I can’t describe it; just listen. It’s so beautiful!
  • Pink Martini - “Que Sera”: a cover– but my god, what a good one. This song is played in the first, pilot episode. Kirsti is the little girl Georgia didn’t want to reap because she found it too cruel, to which Rube replies: “It is cruel. It’s cruel as she never know what life is really like, it’s cruel to miss out on love and pain and beauty. I’d say it to everyone in the world except for her. She won’t give a rat’s ass, she’ll be doing something different, that’s just the way it is.” Georgia then does take her soul after all, and when Kirsti sees her afterlife descend from the heaven (lights shaped like an amusement park), and she runs towards it, this song is played. It is really a beautiful version of “Que Sera”.
  • Squirrel Nut Zippers - “Hell”: a really weird song played throughout the series. I’m not really sure what to make of it yet, but I do like it.
  • And lastly, we come to the music of the SNS commercial. I today found out from who it is: it’s from Sufjan Stevens, a guy from Detroit, and the song is called “In The Devil’s Territory”. I like it that much, I’m going to buy the album. It really is that good.
  • If you download any of the songs mentioned, take either this one or the Metisse one. God, what a great day!
