I heart caffeïne

June 20, 2006

I noticed I drink my coffee differently than most other people. I always drink my cup of joy without sugar or milk (real men drink black coffee), but that’s not special. What is special, however, is that I wait for the coffee to be cooled down enough to drink it in one, big gulp. Most other people I know, sip their coffees, and prefer it to be as hot as possible.

I do know that sipping coffee better enables your body to process the caffeïne, and as such, the effects of the drug are better when you sip (compare eating one huge meal each day to eating three smaller meals a day).

But it doesn’t matter. I heart caffeïne.

  3. I don’t drink caffeine at all (neither I smoke or drink alcohol). I have zero addictions except food (and I am currently on a successful diet).

I suggest you leave caffeine too, it’s not good for you. It might help you “stand up” in the morning, but that’s for a price.

Everything comes at a price. Then I guess you stop breathing, because the air you breath is filthy due to pollution. And I’m being serious. You can’t just ban all the good things in life just because “they might be bad for you”. Life’s to be lived, and if that involves daily intakes of caffeïne and an unspecified intake of Martini Bianco, so be it. If it requires me to grosly disrespect the speedlimit every now and then, so be it.

    It’s called living.

All this is about something we Dutch call, “met mate”. It means something like moderation. Be moderate with things like the above, and the pleasures will far, far, far outweigh the potential dangers.

And now I’m in for a coffee. Anybody else?

  5. >It’s called living.

No, it’s called “living dangerously”. And I think you owe that much to yourself and your parents to stay in good health.

If you are addicted to a substance, that’s bad news. Even if it’s just coffee or caffeinette tea or simply beer. Addictions must be battled.

  6. for me, it’s called living. Life is boring without walking the line every now and then. I’d hate it if my life consisted of avoiding risks instead of taking them.

It’s fine if you want to live such a life, I applaud it, be happy. However, don’t try to tell others what’s dangerous and what isn’t. Other than that, my parents actually encourage me to take risks. Without taking risks, and they know it, life is boring. Life is too short to be sitting at home all day, doing nothing, afraid something might hurt you.

God, I’m imagining now how my life would be without speeding, without going out for a drink, without going to Belgium to drink like fcuk, without coffee, without taking chances, without parachutejumping…

And by God, it scares me.

Of course I will. It’s my responsibility as a fellow person and friend.

  8. Well, it might be something in your genes, I only like my coffee when it has a sygnificantly lower temperature than the inside of my mouth, so the coffee can go from the small cup straight down to my stomach, ready for processing. I think it has something to do with always being in a hurry…
