If this is not hypocrisy

November 20, 2006

All this of course is done in the name of Europe’s hallowed traditions of secularism and liberalism. While nudity and all kinds of sexual perversions are hailed as freedom across the West, a lone woman in hijab or veil minding her own business is like a rag to a bull. If this is not hypocrisy, what is?

Couldn’t have said it better myself. It feels like my parliament is selling the Dutch flag to the devil.

  1. So Thom, you consider secularism and liberalism a bad thing huh? Also, just for the sake of argument, let me ask something. Do you think that parents should have the right to force their daughters to wear gurqas/hijab/veils?

  2. Secularism is one of the most important developments in human history. Liberalism is too– and government regulation of clothing is not really liberal, nor is it secular. A government telling what you should wear is always wrong, whether it be Islamic governments forcing women to wear burkas, or western governments forcing people not to wear whatever they want.

Do you think that parents should have the right to force their daughters to wear gurqas/hijab/veils?

No. Neither does my government have the right to tell people what (not) to wear in public (in the workplace, it’s the boss’ call). If I want to wrap a towel around my face, I should be allowed to. That’s part of freedom. Freedom is not something you can just disregard whenever it damn well pleases you.

  4. This is a bad legislation band-aid to try and cover the gaping wound of Europe’s inability to assimilate muslims.
