Can’t it actually be tougher if you don’t kill them? I would rather live for five years and then die then spend 80 years locked up. In other words, making a person think about their crime for longer seems like more of a punishment.

I’ve always thought the same thing. I wouldn’t consider taking the death penalty away a bargain if it meant that, best case scenario, I lived the rest of my life in prison. I would probably rather die.
