May 27, 2008

God, Allah, fate, nature, the cosmic goat, call it whatever the fcuk you want, fact is its sole purpose is to screw me over.

There’s a BeBox rev. 8 dual 133Mhz incl. all software for sale in The Netherlands. Distance? Drivable. Price? EUR 600.

  1. Hmm. That’s a pretty small thing to whine about, really. Me and my gf have about 400 euros a month to live with, we have to pay the bills, food, any extra and all that from the 400e. And I still don’t whine that some god is trying to fcuk us over….

Just save that 600 over a few months if it so important.

  3. Despair not. Ever heard of Murphy’s laws? This is just a normal everyday example of those ancient Laws known throughout the ages in all highly developed and civilized societies.

Or, it could also be that the cosmic goat is a cat lover too and/or has a part time mortgage or loan business and is trying to convince you to get a loan from him - by giving another one of your two cats to him as a pledge?? (Or you could sell one of those cats to me as I’d like to have a pet too?) Or you could turn Focus Shift into a lucrative business by asking your devoted and faithful fan crowds to pay membership fees for viewing the comic content (just draw and use a nice looking door with the Members log in link)?? Or maybe this extremely hard lesson of life is just a necessary albeit humiliating step on your way to supreme wisdom, perfection and Be Bliss??

  4. Thom,

I know why you want a BeBox - I used to own one. But it’s really not all it is cracked up to be. You might be better off buying a PowerMac 9500/180MP or a PowerMac 9600/200MP. Both are *much* faster than the BeBox, *and* run MacOS, Rhapsody, Linux, BSD and can be coaxed in to running MacOS X very slowly.

Think of it this way… what is it you really want? 600 Euro paper weight, or a fairly cheap PowerMac (should be in the region of 200 Euros) that has the ability to be repaired fairly easily? Your BeBox will look nice, but good luck getting it fixed if the hardware fails. The blinkenlights are cool, but the LED’s are quire fragile and pretty much non user replacable (surface mounted to a PCB.) The Geek port - well, no one really ever found anything to do with it… seriously. Buy a 9500, spray it Blue, fabricate a look alike bezel. It’ll be a much more pleasant experience. You still get the boot logo, you still get BeOS for PowerPC (next to useless - and I was a big BeOS PPC advocate in my time.)

Luckily I sold my BeBox pretty much for what I paid for it. I already had a PowerMac 9500. I’m glad I experienced the BeBox, but I’m also happy that selling was the right thing to do.
