GnomeFiles

September 7, 2008

I try to stay away from angry rant blogging, since it doesn’t really make me look good, but sometimes, I jut have to let of steam a bit.

Not too long ago, Eugenia took down GnomeFiles.org because it got hacked, and she didn’t feel like fixing it any more. She set up a redirect from GnomeFiles.org to OSNews.com, which is not weird seeing OSNews is more or less GnomeFiles’ parent.

Oh boy, the reactions.

From the OSNews contact form:

Whatever lame reasons lead you to put down gnomefiles.org just don’t redirect me to this osnews.. it’s a shame that a site like gnomefiles.org is in hands of incompetents…

And from the OSNews mailing list, a certain Ray Carter:

OS news

Why have you taken over the Gnome Files site?

God I hate people like you. I shall never read your rag and will advise others to avoid you like the plague.

If you are a yank may many hurricanes forever plague you.

Why don’t you just go away.

I was baffled. Here OSNews and Eugenia are, working hard to provide a service to the GNOME/Gtk+ community - a service they aren’t providing themselves - and this is what we/she get in return? Eugenia has received almost nothing but crap from the GNOME and Gtk+ guys, for her often harsh but almost always valid criticisms, and despite all that, she continued to work on providing a valuable service for them. A service, I might add, almost all self-respecting desktop environments/operating systems provide.

You know what? The GNOME and Gtk+ community can GO FCUK THEMSELVES. If I were Eugenia, I’d let GnomeFiles stay offline, and I wouldn’t find a maintainer at all. Let them figure it out themselves.

Bunch of ungrateful twats.

Palin

September 4, 2008

Something about deceiving and appearances… Palin delivered her speech last night to the Republican National Convention - and she totally freaked me out. Especially this one bit nearly made me throw up.

Al Qaeda terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America, and [Obama] is worried that someone won’t read them their rights.

How such barbaric, uncivilised, and un-American words can come out of such a beautiful woman is beyond me. I imagine that the founding fathers are turning over in their graves, wondering where it all went wrong. Their ideals of freedom, individuality, human rights - they’ve all gone down the drain.

This will be the final nail in the coffin. If McCain wins this election, America will alienate itself more and more not only from the rest of the world, but also from the very ideals upon which it was built. Empires come, empires go. Do you want America to just go away? Vote McCain/Palin.

Palin’s still a total MILF, though.

Aserejé

September 3, 2008

Back in high school, I had a friend (he’s still a friend, although we don’t see each other very often) who was quite intelligent - as in, cum laude university. This is one of those people who are always right, no matter the subject, no matter the state of intoxication.

Except for this one time, like 6 years ago, where I totally omgPWNIES! him.

Him: “Damn, normally I don’t have many issues with Spanish - I usually understand most of it - but this Aserejé song, I don’t have a clue what they’re singing about…!”

The frustration was clear.

Me: “Uhm, dude…”

Him: “Yes?”

Me: “…that isn’t Spanish.”

State of the teenage girl

If there ever was a way to explain to the world what the State Of The Teenage Girl is in The Netherlands at this point in time - it’s this.

You and me were cut from the same cloth
It seems to some we famously get along
But you and me are strangers to each other
Because you and me: competitive to the bone

Such tragedy to trample on each other with how much we’ve endured
With the state this land is in

You and me feel joined only by gender
We are not all for one and one for all

Sister blister we fight to please the brothers
We think their acceptance is how we win
They’re happy we’re climbing over each other
To beg the club of boys to let us in

You and me estranged from the mother
You and me have felt impotent in our skin
You and me have taken it out on each other
You and me disloyal to the feminine

Such a pity to disavow each other with how far we’ve come
With how strong we’ve been

You and me are on this pendulum together
You and me with scarcity still fueling

Sister blister we fight to please the brothers
We think their acceptance is how we win
They’re happy we’re climbing over each other
To beg the club of boys to let us in

We may not have priorities same
We may not even like each other
We may not be hugely anti-men
But such a cost to dishonor a sister

You and me have made it harder for the other
We forget how hard separatism has been
You and me we can help change their minds together
You and me in alignment until the end

Sister blister we fight to please the brothers
We think their acceptance is how we win
They’re happy we’re climbing over each other
To beg the club of boys to let us in

Sister Blister from Alanis Morissette, from her relatively unknown mini-album Feast On Scraps (2002) - which, ironically, might actually be her best material to date.
