Quit

January 2, 2009

After six and a half years of working at the same place, I quit my job today. The circumstances aren’t very pleasant, but the moment I talked to my superiors (so to speak) and announced my departure, an immense weight was lifted off my shoulders. I’m feeling very good right now.

I’ve worked there for a very long time, and I really like my colleagues and the fun we had, but the time of moving on has come. I’m looking at several options right now, but I’m not sure yet where I’ll go.

It feels weird though. I’ve worked at the shop for so long, it’s going to be weird not to be there any more.

  2. I changed jobs quite a few times (Programmer, mostly contract positions lately). However, one rule I’ve always had is to find a new job before leaving the old one. Was it scary leaving a job without a definite position to go to?

…and I was sure the big bonuses and the free MacBook Pro’s from OSNews would be enough!

  3. Congratulations! I’ve been in that same place once before… walking out that ancient door for the last time, looking back at that ancient brick building while the snow blew and quickly covered everything nearly a year ago… it was nice to leave, though it had its certain perks, mostly to have an old building that would sometimes inspire my creative side (I love to write, PS). I can’t say the same about my colleagues all liking me, but my letter of resignation brought about a great deal of respect that I didn’t always have from the second-in-command person. Anyway, good luck finding a new job. I hope it suits you well.

Wait, you get free MacBook Pros from OSNews, Thom? Where’s mine? ;) Perhaps he means the review items from the past? Perhaps I should work on finding more of these review items a little harder if it means that I get to keep ones I review (if any).

  4. Free MBPs? I got one for a review once from Apple NL, but it had to be returned to go to the next reviewer. That’s how it usually works with equipment over ~200 EUR.

  5. I was just kidding about the free MBP’s and the big bonuses!

Also, I hope you find something you really like. Obama’s hiring!
