Dead
February 1, 2009I am one of those crazy Dead Like Me fans - you’ve surely encountered some of us, lonely, stranded across the internet, curled up in corners, asking for another Dead Like Me fix, grieving over a photo of Ellen Muth, spastically clutching onto our box sets of season one and two as it were our offspring.
I wrote a few notes on the Dead Like Me film on OSNews today. I’ve seen the film, and I’m happy. They managed to please me - one of the most die-hard DLM fans. Bravo, and congratulations to everyone involved. Here’s to hoping for another season!

How did you manage to see it? Torrent or legal? I’ve very envious :-(

Torrent AND legal. In The Netherlands, downloading copyrighted content like music and videos is legal, because our variant of the RIAA made a deal with the government that e have to pay an additional fee on every empty medium sold. Uploading content is still illegal.
In any case, I’m going to buy the real DVD anyway - assuming they release it over here actually.

Needed more Crystal, and of course more Rube.

Right, seen it. Reaction: good story, lacked the spark that made the show. I mean, it was good in many ways, but…
1) Ellen looks Ill. She is way too thin. She was thin before, but there are times she just looks like she has two sticks for legs.
2) Inconsistent story. George should have lost all of her memories the moment she started opening up to Reggie. They made such a big deal of it in the original show. It made a mockery of the season two closing shot too.
3) the Daisy replacement reminded me of Cybil Shepard. Just didn’t like her.
4) Not enough Joy. She was way more focal in the original plot. She seemed to be a pointless nod to the old show. Sort of like ticking off a list of characters.
5) The Cameron sub plot was stupid. He, again, seemed to be there to pad the film and give the Reggie plotline breathing space. But if the film had been 2 hours, I think it could have developed that plot in to something more interesting. Just seemed rushed.
5) should have had Rube in the film. If only as a voice over or flashback. The final scene really needed Rube saying something to George - all disembodied. Something along the lines of “over to you Peanut” or ever a reuse of one of his lines from the original series.
Reggie… Gosh darn, she has turned in to a pretty young thing. And they made her look shockingly like George too.
All I. All, nice film. But it left me with the same feeling I had after the Farscape : peacekeeper wars mini series. “Recapturing the magic is extremely difficult. Indeed.”
Hope they do commission a new series. I have the feu g it won’t happen on the strength of this movie though. Too short. Too schitso. Not enough of the dark humour and sassy attitude that made me love the original.

Sorry iPhone keyboard fail on a few words there.
If they do make a new series Reggie and George should remain on speaking terms. I was just thinking about it, and that would make for a much more interesting story line. Maybe George as head Reaper (which is what I took the closing shot to mean), and then add a new young boy as a reaper and have Reggie date him. That might work. If Heorge can now talk to Reggie without losing any memories, may as well use that.
