Because this is an unknown strain of the flu virus that, if it were to spread uncontrolled, then it would cause a pandemic with potentially MANY more deaths than the usual (in the millions, not the hundreds of thousands).

Exactly. It’s the potential of it. Besides, speaking for myself, I almost died from the common cold a few months ago (heart racing problems because of the cold), let alone how my body would react on the regular flu. I wouldn’t make it.

Can anyone remember the bird flu? It was going to kill us all as well.

Poor pigs, I wish poeple would stop calling it the swine flu, and start using mexican flu..
I totally agree, but some humans are so easy to manipulate these days, and somehow we allways have a disaster in the media, and never good/happy news.
Anyone heard of the state of the Ozon layer recently, or the depletion of fossil resources, or any of the former disasters..

Yeah, like the media are forcing the researchers and doctors to say bullshit just to make some audience… pfff
Thank you genius for uncovering the conspiracy. You’re so much above the mass.

@bob, I don’t actually know if your using sarcasm, I hope so actually.
The media is well known to overemphasise and oversimplify researchers and put the things there saying out of context. They know how to create screaming headlines from even the most boring research.
The media doesn’t have to force them to say bullshit, they’ll just adapt it that way. That’s no conspiracy theory, people learn it at elementary school.

@ Righard, no i’m being totally serious!
I agree with you that “some” media overemphasise and oversimplify. It’s not a reason to ignore the facts that you can gather from serious media or direct source! This attitude is just reinforcing the idea that any bad news in the press is just some conspiracy stuff. Global warming etc… What would you have commented when AIDS started to appear?
Being always sceptical isn’t any clever than being always naive.

Yes, good thing mainstream media didn’t do any scare mongering when AIDS started to appear. Oh wait, we were all going to die from that too.
Yes, it should be taken seriously, no we should not panic and run around like idiots wearing surgical facemasks.
