Cogs can think. ~ FAQ

I. Who are you?

Thom Holwerda, 23 (01-12-1984) years old, Dutch through-and-through, OSNews' managing editor.

II. What's up with your front name? Is it short for 'Thomas'?

No. My name is Thom, with the 'h'. It's not short for Thomas. Thom with an 'h' is fairly rare over here - if I had a penny for every time I needed to clarify my parents' choice...

III. What's with the cogs?

The original idea behind the 'Cogs Can Think.' name was that this blog was supposed to chronicle my struggle to find how the world works (you know, cogs moving a clock). Or whatever. Now it's just the name of my blog, it stuck, and it won't change.

IV. What do you do 'in real life'?

I am a student attending the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, but I do not live, nor wish to live, in Amsterdam. I still live in my hometown, far away from Amsterdam. I study English with communication and information sciences influences. My master will be journalism, and I am already filling my minor with journalism courses.

On top of that, I obviously have a job to pay my rent and bills.

V. You are biased againt-[insert company/OS/software/etc name]. Therefore, you must be killed and eaten alive.

I am biased for and against everything, if I were to believe some of the hatemail I get. You know, I just don't care. When I close my laptop's lid, OSNews ceases to exist, and that's all that matters. If I haven't met you in real life, you are irrelevant (exceptions exist).

VI. Why do you write 'fcuk' instead of 'fuck'?

I have no idea. My memory tells me it started on my previous Blogspot blog, that if Google were ever to censor nasty words, I would not be affected if I started writing 'fcuk'. However, I cannot find any entry or reference on my old Blogspot blog to this. So, yes, a mystery.

I do not write 'fcuk' on purpose. I write it automatically. Now it's part of my style.

VII. Who made this website?

It's a modification of Michael Heileman's 'Kubrick' design. The modifications are courtesy of me and Eugenia.

VIII. Why don't you have your own domain name?

Because I'm lazy. Other than that, Blogsome is really good and loose. I like them.

IX. Why does this site fail any form of w3c validation?

Because I don't care about validation on my blog. This is a thing I do for myself, not to please others. If my site fails to render properly in your browser (Safari, Firefox, IE, Camino, etc; so no weird, obscure stuff), and you have a screenshot to prove it, then I might think about doing something about it.

X. How many computers do you have?

A few. I mostly use my PowerBook, though. OS X.

The only computer left on my 'to-kill-for' list is an original BeBox.

XI. Why do you hate America so much?

I don't hate America. I hate its government, its governmental system, its justice system, its military, ..., ... . Other than that, I have a hard time trusting a country with invasion plans against my country.

XII. What is your relationship with the Haiku project?

I'm a contributor team member of the Haiku documentation effort. Currently, I'm proofreading the API documentation. This may seem like a very boring thing to do, but I actually really like it. However, I really want to get even more involved when the time is here to start working on the end-user documentation.
